I arrived 3 hours ahead of schedule to check in (I selected my seat when booking the ticket).
The waiting area for domestic departures in Baiyun Airport. The China Southern Airlines business lounge is located on the second floor.
Our plane was parked right outside!
Boarding gate 15. There were queues for economy-class passengers and for Sky Priority members.
About 45 minutes before departure we began boarding shuttles. When entering the shuttle, each passenger received a ticket, which they then had to turn over to a police officer when boarding the plane.
Approaching the goliath:
Powerful Rolls Royce turbines:
Massive chassis and fuselage:
First class cabin, of which I only have one blurry photo, as access there is restricted during the flight.
The lower deck is split into first and economy class, while the upper deck is divided into business and economy class.
I was on the upper deck, seat 76H.
The economy-class seats were very comfortable, with fabric upholstery. The headrests could be adjusted for height.
The rows were widely spaced. There were tons of leg room.
Each seat was equipped with an entertainment system.
There were lots of movies, games and music to choose from. Or if none of those were to your taste, you could always just watch the flight information.
Between the seat and the window there was stowage for carry-on. Very convenient.
Large windows, which kept drawing my eye and inviting me to look out.
The luggage racks were likewise spacious.
The warning lights, which notified passengers when to buckle their seatbelts and reminded them not to smoke.
The stairs to the upper deck are located in the tail end of the plane, which lead to a hallway and an employee-only area for the flight attendants.
They allowed me to take some photos of the business-class cabin.
The restrooms were in pristine condition. It featured a large flush button, sensor-activated taps, hand cream, and moisturizer spray for the face.
Magazines and earphones were available in the seat pockets.
The food was great. Though the flight was only an hour and thirty five minutes, a hot meal was provided. Second helpings were provided readily. I asked for a pastry to go with my tea.
Taxiing and takeoff were very smooth.
Takeoff was delayed by 45 minutes, all of which time we spent sitting on the plane. The flight was about 1:35 long. I nevertheless had the most stellar impressions of the level of service and comfort. Anyone who gets the chance to make a trip on this giant plane, take it: you won't regret it. Too bad that this wasn't a long-distance flight. I'd really love to experience this "bird" on a long trip!
