Beautiful plane comfortable smooth. Passengers loved them, pilots loved them. flight attendant loved them and airlines loved them one of the best safety records of airplanes built in that era.

An amazing aircraft way ahead of its time. Thanks to the decision to fit it with Rolls-Royce engines, about the same time it was a financial disaster. Had Lockheed chosen the GE-CF6 as McDonald Douglas did, it would have arrived on the market at about the same time the DC-10 did.
The L-1011 was a luxury liner without design flaws. Sparing pilot error circumstances, it had a nearly perfect safety record.
Poor engineering decisions (power-plant choice in this case) have been the demise of many aircraft designs that otherwise were promising moneymakers. DC-10 accidents cut their production by 3 or 4 years. A rush to be the first jumbo Tri-Jet led to horrendous design flaws and a large factor in the demise of McDonald Douglas.
I loved the the old tri-jets...all of them, big and small.

An excellent aircraft. Spacious interior and very quiet. Galley being below deck opened up the cabin to being less cluttered. Sad to see this plane phased out so soon!

Very much enjoyed flying in this aircraft; wide aisles, comfortable seats with good leg room and plenty lavoratories.
