In November, 2011 I took a trip through Indonesia. This and several more reviews will describe the flights with the local airlines.
The capital of the Bali island Denpasar and the capital of the Flores Island Labuhanbajo are connected by air with the help of three carriers: Merpati Nusantara, Wings Air and TransNusa.
The most comfortable for us (though not the cheapest) way to reach Labuan Bajo appeared to be the TransNusa flight. The flight’s being carried out by another carrier – Aviastar Mandiri. I was rather eager to become the passenger of a rare bird – the BAe 146 aircraft.

BAe 146 is a commercial middle sized jetliner. It’s been manufactured by British Aerospace (Great Britain) in 1983-2003. 387 planes have been produced on the whole. BAe 146 has become the second most successful British civil jet. Since 1992 the reworked version of the jet has been produced under the name Avro RJ.
BAe 146/Avro RJ is a high-wing monoplane with T-tail unit and 4 jet engines. The plane is characterized by the short takeoff and landing. It’s also famous for the low noise level and has a nickname Whisperjet. The aircraft was aimed at the use by regional airlines in the small airports within the cities.

There’s no municipal transport to the airport and no taxi in the city at all. Only passenger minivans going without any schedule are available. You have either to settle the transfer with your hotel or to pick up some car in the airport. Just the same situation is at the departure.
