Domestic flight in Russia: Krasnoyarsk–Moscow by UTair

This trip on the flight UT-572 from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia to Vnukovo Airport, Moscow, took place on 23 August 2010. Currently, UTair performed flights between Krasnoyarsk and Moscow twice daily, morning and evening. UT-572 is the morning flight from Krasnoyarsk, departing at 7:25 AM and arriving in Moscow at 08:30 AM, local time.

The plane used for the flight was a Boeing-737-500 (tail number VP-BYM), with 2 seating classes: business and economy.

The takeoff and climb were fast and smooth.

The plane was almost completely packed (the end of August is a high season!).

Onboard service: refreshments—a selection of mineral water, juices and wine (served twice during the flight and also by request), food—a selection of meat, chicken and fish, with various side dishes. The servings were quite generous and easily sustained me through the trip. Also available were a variety of newspapers that the passengers mostly ignored.

Economy-class: the seats and upholstery were fairly worn, but kept very clean. Foot space was limited, like in all Boeings, but not uncomfortably so. Each seat had its own table, air vent and reading light.

The restrooms weren’t sparkling clean, but acceptable.

Drawbacks aside, the flight followed its schedule to a tee. Departure and arrival times were exactly as written, which, in the long run, is what’s most important!

Conclusion: UTair is a classic, full-service airline for the middle class. Flights offer the minimal amount of services and accommodations expected, with no extra frills. The equipment isn’t new, but is well-maintained. Flights follow their schedule very closely.
