To Bangkok through Abu Dhabi with Etihad

My friend and me decided to visit Thailand via Cambodia on our own planning to sped there a month or a month and a half. We’ve chosen flights of Etihad Airways fr om Moscow to Bangkok with connection in Abu Dhabi. The prices for the end of July, 2011 were practically bottom. The tickets were bought at Etihad web-site.

At the same time it seems to be more reliable to make a beeline. Etihad flies from Domodedovo. The only problem we’ve faced was the demand of the airlines representative at the registration board to book the return tickets. She insisted that Russian tourists without return tickets are not allowed to enter Thailand. It’s not true but we agreed since it was for free.
We flew to Abu Dhabi onboard Airbus A320 which was practically new.

Among the stewardesses of the Arabian airlines there are some European girls. But they look rather sad.

Each seat is equipped with touch-screen. Different music, films and programs are available. Some of them are in Russian. There is also the flight map. In general, it’s the standard assortment.

I’m not fussy about my food, especially when it’s for free. We could choose meat, fish or chicken. I’ve forgotten my choice, but it was tasty. Alcohol was served without stinginess. After dinner tea and coffee were served.

We reached Abu Dhabi in the evening, it was already dark. In comparison with the plane it was a real sauna out-of-doors. All of us took the bus and were driven to the illuminated airport building.

We had 1 hour 45 minutes for connection, so it was enough time. By the way, it was possible to look through the airport scheme, to find the gate of the next flight departure yet in the plane, in an hour before landing. The transit passengers had to pass through the metal detector loops, the hand luggage was X-raid. We were advised in English wh ere to go and informed about the departure information, etc. There was a long queue but everybody quickly passed through everything. The airport looks like a huge shopping center. There was everything in it - luxurious perfume, watches, candies, automobiles…

There’s no free wi-fi as far as I remember.

We flew to Bangkok onboard of Boeing 777. I was amazed by the two huge engines which seemed to be like the previous plane A320 in diameter each.

The take-off was inconspicuous, there was no shaking during the flight. Somewhere over India we noticed lightnings far away. The food was served, with alcohol as well. We’ve got earplugs and masks in the special zipped case. The case is being used as the cover for the navigator now.
In the morning we’ve got some biscuits and coffee. They were not greedy and served the additional cups for those who wanted.

The display was bigger with two USB-ports. It was possible to watch your own pictures an listen to the music from the flesh-drive. All the seats were equipped by the 110V sockets. We charged the laptop, watched the serial. We’ve got the big, quality earphones, not the throwaway tablets.

We were slowly descending, we had a chance to admire the Bangkok surroundings from above.

The Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport is the biggest in the South-Eastern Asia and one of the biggest in the world. We walked about 20 minutes to the border control.

There were no problems passing through the boarder. Thai migration cards were given to us aboard the plane. At the same time our luggage appeared, so we didn’t wait long.

It’s nice that in the airport there are plenty of book-stores, supermarkets and cash-machines. The most pleasant are the prices which don’t differ from those out in the town. You may get a cup of coffee in Seven-Eleven for 15 Baht.

The most quick and cheap way to get the city center is the City Train. The train go once in 15 minutes, the price to the center is 35 Bat. It takes you 25-30 minutes. In the city the train goes along the overpass leaving the airport from the second level.
